Bẫy Ngọt Ngào (Naked Truth) is a seductive drama movie directed by Vietnamese director Đinh Hà Uyên Thư, dubbed the “million view” MV director for her outstanding career in the music industry. The film is set to be released on Friday, April 22 in over 50 major theaters and cinemas in the US. Bẫy Ngọt Ngào is Vietnam’s top box office hit of 2022 and will have the widest theatrical opening weekend in the US for a Vietnamese film.

This new Vietnam-made cinematic masterpiece comes on the heels of the success of Bố Già (Dad, I’m Sorry), which became the first Vietnamese-produced title to cross the $1 million mark in the US last year.

The story jumps off when the four friends reunite to celebrate the 3-year marriage anniversary of the group’s lone successor to have found marital bliss. For years, they have not heard anything from each other.

Talking about the inspiration behind this motion picture, the Vietnamese female director said she chose to explore the topic of domestic abuse because on one hand, it is inherently a burning issue of contemporary society, and “on the other hand, I’ve also been a witness to listening to real stories from those around me,” she said. To her, this is a way of expressing her thoughts and reflections on her past experiences.

In Bẫy Ngọt Ngào, Đinh deftly weaves a poignant story about the strength of lifelong friendships, the hidden darkness of domestic abuse, and the power of personal liberation. Layer by layer, concealed lives are revealed, trapping each character in a tangled web of dangerous secrets that threaten to push precarious relationships over the edge.

Thien A. Pham of 3388 Films, the North American distributor of Bẫy Ngọt Ngàomtold Vietcetera that this film combines the perfect amount of levity and gravity that is certain to make a lasting impression on the movie audience. “We’re extremely proud to be able to actively expand distribution opportunities for international and independent films,” he said.

“Through the collective support of many partners and communities, we earnestly look forward to continuing our work to help films reach a wider global audience,” Thien added.

Thien and his team at 3388 Films also brought Bố Già (Dad, I’m Sorry) to the US audience.

Bẫy Ngọt Ngào (Naked Truth) is produced by Live On, with a US theatrical release by 3388 Films. The film opens on Friday, April 22, 2022, in theaters across the US.
